Expected configuration of the Sony Play Station 4 CPU

The releasing date of Sony’s Play station 4 is knocking at the door. Everybody is expecting that it would be the greatest gaming console that has ever made. Now, what will actually be the configuration of the all new PS4? Well, no one knows about it, but we can at least imagine what would be its configuration. Let’s have a look what could be the configuration of the PS4’s CPU (Central Processing Unit).

PS4 CPU

Sony has used a cell based processor in the present model of Play Station that is the PS3. This processor is configured with 1 Power Processing Element (PPE) and 8 Synergistic Processing Elements (SPE) with the clock frequency of 3.2 GHz. Basically, six of the eight SPE’s are accessible and other two have used in different purposes. One is for security purpose and also is committed to the features of OS. The other one is an additional to develop production yields. The performance of this processor is overall 204 GFLOPs.

So, it is obvious that Sony will include a Cell Processor in the next PS4 as it has spent a huge amount of money to the improvement of the Cell Processor. May be we will see Sony adding more SPEs (overall 16 SPEs), if the processor is manufactured at 32 nm. Same power should be consumed by this configuration as well as the PS3’s 90 nm Cell Processor. The clock speed might boost up to 3.8 GHz. Though, this arrangement will improve the performance of the processor it will generate too much heat. For this reason, 22 nm processors of 3.2 GHz are expected to be launched. This arrangement will make the processor to have a performance of approximately 500 GFLOPs.

Well, this is just an assumption. We have to wait more or less one year for the exact PS4’s configuration.
